KATHMANDU: The Department of Immigration has launched a digital visa system replacing the 45-year-old system of issuing to foreign nationals. The Department has introduced a digital visa system replacing the handwritten visa system.
Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel inaugurated the printed visa system with QR code at a program organized at the Immigration Department on Monday. He issued the first visa under the system to Tenzing Norbu Lama, a Portuguese citizen.
Based on the details entered in the printed visa system commuter with QR code, the Nepali port will generate the visa and print the visa sticker.
This will eliminate errors in handwriting and can be printed and pasted directly from the system. If someone adds details with bad intention on the visa sticker, it can be easily checked by QR code.
According to the Department, Nepal’s visas are similar to those of other countries, which is believed to contribute positively to the growth of national self-esteem.
Now, Nepal’s visa can be implemented as a reliable and dependable and electronic visa according to international standards. According to the Department, the service will be expanded in the near future at the Immigration Office of Tribhuvan International Airport and all immigration offices across the country.
Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Poudel said that this system has ushered in a new era of Nepali immigration. He also mentioned that this work will help in bringing efficiency and establish good governance by providing government services through electronic means.
