KATHMANDU: The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to take the initiative to thwart Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli when he comes to Parliament for a vote of confidence.
A meeting of Nepali Congress officials held on Tuesday has decided to hold discussions with the parties first. Stating that it was too late to convene the budget session and that important issues including COVID-19 were to be discussed, the special session was convened to seek a vote of confidence and said that the Congress would take initiative to defeat the Prime Minister.
After the meeting, Congress Joint General Secretary Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat said, “The Prime Minister has decided to convene a meeting of the Parliament on May 10 for the purpose of taking a vote of confidence. The Congress has decided to take initiative to thwart that vote of confidence.”
The Congress has accused the Oli government of undermining constitutional values and forcibly forming a government even after reaching a minority vote in the states. Dr Mahat further said, “We have also condemned the unconstitutional activities under the direction of the Center.”
The Congress has also objected to the re-introduction of the Constitutional Council Ordinance issued today.
