President Bhandari urges parties to cooperate, Defends KP Oli government’s efforts

KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has urged to continue the cooperation between the political parties for the effective implementation of the constitution and strengthening of democracy in an environment where mutual dialogue, cooperation and unity prevail in Nepal’s political beauty.

Welcoming the gathering of top leaders of the parties represented in the parliament and former prime ministers at the President’s Office, Maharajganj on Tuesday afternoon, President Bhandari called for continuing dialogue and discussion on the daily problems of the people and their livelihood.

Defending the work done by the current KP Oli government, President Bhandari also thanked the parties for their unprecedented unity in controlling the coronavirus pandemic and publishing a new political map of Nepal incorporating the Kalapani region.

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister and CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, NCP (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, Janata Samajwadi Party Presidents Mahantha Thakur, Upendra Yadav and Rajendra Mahato.

However, senior UML leaders Jhala Nath Khanal and Madhav Kumar Nepal and JSP Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai were not present at the meeting.

Home Minister Thapa present on behalf of UML

A statement issued by the President’s Office Spokesperson Rup Narayan Bhattarai said that the then NCP (Maoist Centre) leader and Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa was present on behalf of the CPN (UML).

President to visit Bangladesh

During the meeting, President Bhandari informed that she was going to pay a state visit to Bangladesh in the near future as she was invited by the President of Bangladesh to attend a function to be held in Dhaka on the occasion of the birth centenary of Founding Father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
