KASKI: Prithvi Subba Gurung, who has been re-appointed as the Chief Minister of Gandaki State, has been sworn in. State Chief Sita Poudel administered the oath of office and secrecy to him on Wednesday evening.
After Gurung’s resignation on May 9, State Chief Poudel gave three days to the parties to form a majority government.
On Wednesday, Nepali Congress Assembly Member Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokhrel claimed that he had the support of 31 MPs from four parties. However, Poudel has appointed Gurung as the Chief Minister of the minority government as per Article 168 (3) of the Constitution saying that Pokhrel’s claim will not be met.
Now, Chief Minister Gurung will have to take a vote of confidence in the State Assembly within a month.
Meanwhile, Rastriya Janamorcha has removed it’s leader Krishna Thapa at the State’s Parliamentary Party citing he has violated the party directive to support Nepali Congress alliance.
At the last moment, two Members of Janamorcha Krishna Thapa and Khim Bikram Shahi had published a release saying they will remain as neutral in the formation of new government. Their decision to remain neutral has helped Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung to prove the majority in the State Assembly.
MP Krishna Thapa has repeatedly said that he would not support Nepali Congress, saying he has tremendous pressure from friends and party cadres of the district. However, many believe that he was expecting to be minister.
