Three-party request President Bhandari for majority government

KATHMANDU: The three opposition parties have urged President Bidya Devi Bhandari to call for the formation of a majority government under Article 76(2) of the Constitution.

After the proposal of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to take a vote of confidence was rejected by the parliament, Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, UCPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Chairman Upendra Yadav made a joint appeal in this regard.

They have urged the President to start the process of forming a majority government as per Article 76 (2) of the Constitution.

Dev Gurung, Chief Whip of the UCPN (Maoist Centre) said that there were 126 lawmakers in their favor so far and the possibility of an alliance remained. He said that a conspiracy was being hatched to bring it to 76(3) without practicing Section 72(2).
