KATHMNADU: After the Supreme Court verdict today, the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has turned into different course. The apex court has decided that the NCP belongs to leader Rishi Kattel.
The decision has turned the politics, particularly within ruling NCP, into upside down. According to constitutional lawyers, the NCP will go back to their previous status as NCP (UML) and CPN (Maoist Centre).
The decision came in response to a writ petition filed by leader Kattel arguing that NCP led by KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ had similar name to the party he was leading.
Chairman Kattel had argued in the writ petition that he had registered the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) at Election Commission in 2069 BS, but then CPN (UML) and CPN (Maoist Centre) had registered the party in same name- Nepal Communist Party (NCP) after unification in 2075 BS.
Kattel had earlier complained at Election Commission why it gave recognition to the party led by Oli and Dahal though they registered the party in the same name.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said he was ready to accept the verdict of Supreme Court.
But, leaders Puspa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal have been in discussion about the Supreme Court’s decision. They have in discussion of taking consultations with lawyers about the latest verdict of Supreme Court.
