KATHMANDU: The coronavirus pandemic has affected this year’s national census campaign. If the situation was normal, the census, which was scheduled from June 8 to 22, could not be started due to the rapid spread of coronavirus infection across the country.
According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), this is the first time in the history that the census could not be completed on time.
According to CBS officials, the census had been postponed in more than five dozen countries around the world due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The preparations have been started to conduct the census from mid-June to mid-August as the situation is getting favorable. “We have managed the budget for the next fiscal year and preparing to conduct the census from July to August,” CBS information officer Tirtharaj Chaulagain said.
The CBS has already selected 8,000 supervisors and 39,000 enumerators by setting up offices in all the seven states and 77 districts.
The CBS has already postponed all the programs including the training due to the rapid spread of coronavirus infection. This is the 12th national census conducted every 10 years since 1968 BS.
