KATHMANDU: Four CPN (UML) leaders including Madhav Kumar Nepal have responded to the clarification sought by the party.
Leaders Nepal, Bhim Bahadur Rawal, Surendra Pandey and Ghanashyam Bhusal have submitted their clarification on Thursday, said the party office secretary Iswari Rijal.
Accusing them of working against the party, the party’s central committee meeting on March 20 had decided to seek clarification from the four leaders. The letter seeking their clarification was sent to them by party general secretary Ishwar Pokharel on March 21, with a week’s deadline.
It may be noted that following the reinstatement of the UML by the Supreme Court, leader Nepal has been running parallel activities, in protest against the decision of party chair to make appointments unilaterally.
Responding the letter, UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal has accused party Chairman KP Sharma Oli of violating party’s statute.
Responding to a 10-point explanation from the party leadership, he said that it was not him but party Chairman Oli who had violated the party’s statute. Addressing Chairman Oli, Nepal wrote in reply, “Your activities are contrary to the norms established in various articles of Chapter Seven of the statute passed by the Ninth National General Convention of the CPN-UML.”
The 8-page letter has raised several questions regarding the unification of CPN (UML) and CPN (Maoist Centre), agreements with Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, secret meetings. But, Chairman Oli didn’t respect and fulfill his commitment to smooth functioning of the party, particularly united Nepal Communist Party (NCP), the letter says.
“Even in the changed context, Chairman Oli chose to sideline leaders and tried to take action unilaterally, and appointed central committee members who were not even the party member. It was a blatant rejection of party rules, regulation and statute,” leader Nepal states.
