KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Minister of Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa has been sworn in. Thapa, who was re-appointed as Home Minister on Sunday, took the oath of office and secrecy before President Bidya Devi Bhandari.
Thapa was appointed Home Minister by President Bhandari on Sunday on the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
Prime Minister Oli had recommended Thapa for re-appointment after the federal parliament on Sunday approved a letter from the UCPN (Maoist Centre) demanding Thapa’s resignation. Prime Minister Oli and National Assembly Speaker Ganesh Prasad Timilsina were present at the swearing-in ceremony. Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun and Speaker Agni Sapkota were not present on the occasion.
Thapa’s parliamentary seat was revoked after he left Prachanda-led UCPN (Maoist Centre) and joined the UML.
Previously, four ministers who joined CPN (UML) were also re-appointed after UCPN (Maoist Centre) recommended Parliament Secretariat to remove them from the Member of Parliament.
