Seven killed in landslide in Sindhupalchowk



SINDHUPALCHOWK: Seven people have been killed in floods and landslides in Sindhupalchowk district on Tuesday evening. Chief District Officer, Arun Kumar Pokhrel, said police and people’s representatives had confirmed the deaths of seven people.

According to him, there have been no further reports of human casualties.

Floods and landslides in Melamchi and Helambu on Tuesday evening have caused extensive damage. Three bridges have collapsed in Helambu and one in Melamchi. Roads have also collapsed, disrupting traffic.

Chief District Officer Pokharel said that preparations are being made to operate Nepal Army helicopters and other private helicopters as there is no walking condition.

He said that the flow of water in Melamchi has not decreased. He said that caution has been exercised as further damage could occur if the flow enters the settlement.
